Smart Energy Week is Japan's biggest renewable energy exhibition of the autumn, covering solar, storage, hydrogen and wind. It is a good place for us to be. Japanese manufacturers keep fitting more power into equipment that has to stay the same size, and cooling is very often what sets the limit.
We brought AURORA-X and ULTIMA-X, the two newest platforms in our range. Both launched this summer and both use NEOcore-X, our two-phase thermal channel technology, which moves heat passively with no pump and no coolant loop.
AURORA-X is made for narrow air ducts. It replaces a skived or extruded aluminium heat sink without any change to the installation envelope. In laboratory testing it ran 23.9 °C cooler at the same load and handled 23% more power at rated junction temperature [measured against a skived aluminium reference, SEMiX603GB12E4SiCp SiC modules, 40 °C ambient, 600 m³/h duct airflow].
ULTIMA-X is the larger platform, built for utility scale converters. It runs up to 27 °C cooler than skived aluminium and up to 52 °C cooler than extruded aluminium [initial simulated performance, ULTIMA-X-180 at 2,200 W, 40 °C ambient].
Liquid cooling handles the same heat loads, but it brings a pump, a loop and a service interval with it. For a lot of renewable energy designs, passive air cooling is the simpler answer.
