Our findings from the Light+Building 2022

Light+Building gathered over 1 500 exhibitors after a few years of hiatus. It was great to visit and get to know all the new LED luminaire products that were exhibited in the five halls that the fair presented.

The most important findings at the fair were the following:

  1. The high-power COB LEDs become more general, especially in outdoor and industrial lighting. The effectiveness of aluminum heat sinks restricts the performance in many of these applications.
  2. Many thermal management solutions are still based on die-casted aluminum solutions. These solutions have trouble finding the optimal power-to-size and weight ratio.
  3. The role of thermal management is highlighted particularly in mast and stadium lighting applications. The ability to reduce the size and weight of these LED lights enables more cost-efficient installation with a reduced wind load.

CooliBlade had the opportunity to present its reference design to some of the participating companies. The enthusiastic reception for the reference designs was a positive sign for us.

“Thank you to all the people in Frankfurt that participated in L+B for all the valuable and enlightening conversations regarding the future of lighting applications. Our vision for the thermal management need in the LED luminaire industry was strengthened during the fair. With effective thermal management, it is possible to lengthen the component lifetime, reduce the weight of lights, and get more power out of the new LED chips.” comments CooliBlade CTO Kimmo Jokelainen.
